Students Feel Unsafe after School Shootings in the U.S. this year.

The number of mass school shooting in the U.S is still not declining despite efforts in increasing school security.

In a poll conducted Dec. 2013 by Hamilton College, high school seniors were asked how safe they really feel at their school, 60 percent felt they were somewhat, fairly, and very concerned with their safety.

In the past month alone there have been two major school shootings in the U.S that were reported in the media, and two incidents were reported at De Anza College this year.

Five students at De Anza College were interviewed and asked what their major safety concerns were on campus.

“I take night classes here, and I rarely see security patrolling the parking lots,” said Karla Galvan 28, a child development major. “The parking lots are also very dark and I catch myself running to my car at times!”

Galvan has expressed her concerns with the De Anza police department and will continue until she transfers in the fall.

According to the Washing Post, in an analysis of school shootings there were 74 incidents that included, fatal, nonfatal, suicidal, and unintentional shootings in the US following the Sandy Hook incident in Dec. 2012.

Danny Gonzales 25, and EMT student who works with children part time was asked what school shooting impacted him the most.

“Sandy Hook was probably one of the hardest shootings to take in, I work with kids and I can’t imagine someone wanting to hurt such innocence.” He said.

The fact is the there are a lot more school shooting than what is reported in the national media and students are taking notice.

In the Hamilton College poll, 85 percent of the high seniors surveyed agreed that stricter laws should be enforced in the purchasing of guns.

School security is not the only way to keep students safe; it is also the duty of the police departments to take every call and incident reported seriously.

In the UC Santa Barbra shooting, there were multiple police reports filled by even his family, on Elliot Rodger, the shooter, regarding his mental state. YouTube videos were also posted regarding his plans for the attack and nothing was done.

“The shooting’s can happen anywhere, and what is even more frightening is that it seems police is not doing much about the situation.” Said Lida Gonzales 26, a business major at De Anza College.

Guns are not the only things that pose a threat to students, this year at De Anza there has been two known police reports filled of students being victimized on campus.

During the begining on the year there was a rape incident reported by a young women in a campus bathroom, and recently there was another involving another young women being threated with a knife in a parking lot.

LeMai Le 21, a communications student at De Anza was asked how she felt towards the incidents that involved two young women being attacked on campus.

“I like that the school notifies us, but we haven’t heard anything from the first incident, is it solved?” she asked, “Did the catch the guy? I mean the guy could be in my class for all I know.”

Le’s questions still remain unanswered and the concern for more safety on campus is still an issue that students are concerned about.

“I do not want De Anza or Sac State (where I am attending in the fall) to be another victim of school shootings.” Stated Athena Marielle 24, a communications major at De Anza, “I want to feel safe and enjoy my years as a student.”

It is evident that students do not want to become another statistic, and are doing what they can by expressing their concerns.

Cinch the Waist, Pop your Hips

Suck it in ladies! The Corset is making a comeback!

Since the beginning of time, women have been putting themselves through hell in order to wear the latest fashion designs. The corset was a very popular and an important piece of clothing that traces all the way back to the 14th century and slowly disappeared in the 19th century.

In January of 2014 Chanel announced the corset in their collection, who knew it would be such a hit! Blake Lively arrived at the 2014 Cannes Festival in a beautiful illusion dress by Chanel with a plunging neckline, proving that corsets can be elegant and classic.

The corset has been seen negatively from a lot of feminist groups claiming that it constricts a women to a false body image, but why can't a woman embrace her curves?

Chanel did a beautiful job in recreating the classic corset and modernized it to fit the modern day woman. This dress offers comfort, style, and elegance. Well done Chanel, you never fail to impress the world of Fashion.

Selena Gomez Proves that Scrunchies are BACK!

Once again we see that A-list celeb's making a bold statement and bringing back a little fashion history. Selena Gomez was spotted wearing, believe it or not, a SCRUNCHY!

In the late '80s to '90s women all over the world had at least one scrunchy in they're accessory bin, and of course made sure to color coordinate with your current outfit. In the early 2000's scrunchies were shunned as an awful fashion trend that should be left in the past, even Carrie from Sex and the City agrees.

But this forgotten trend is finally back and generating attention from all over the media! Scrunchies even appear in Robin Thick's Blurred Lines video and the clothing company American Apparel has released hundreds of different colored scrunchies in their new collection as well!

I guess it is time to welcome back the '90s!

The Iconic Meat Dress

"No one person is more valuable than another person"

-Lady gaga

Lady Gaga is known for spectacular performances and bold fashion statements, but it was not until the 2010 VMA's that she stunned the world.

Lady Gaga walked the white carpet of the 2010 MTV VMA's in a breathtaking Alexander McQueen gown accompanied by four gay and lesbian soldiers who were discharged or choose to leave the military because of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy.

Gaga is a well known human rights activist and chose this national televised event to demonstrate the harsh rules Don't Ask, Don't Tell implies.

Later on in the night she changed into the iconic meat dress and explained what it symbolized for her, "If we don't stand up for what we believe in, if we don't stand up for our rights, pretty much, we are going to have as many rights as the meat on our bones," she said in an interview by Ellen DeGeneres following the VMA's.

Lady Gaga in her own way demonstrate's what she strongly believes in and sets a great example for our generation not be afraid to voice our opinions.

Kimye on Vogue: Art or Trash?

Vogue released their April 2014 issue with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on the cover. Kim was dressed in a beautiful wedding gown and Kanye held on tight to his Fiance from behind.

Kim and Kanye received major criticism for being on the cover of a prestige fashion magazine. Harsh critics claimed they were not deserving of such an honor. Even celebrities like Sarah Michelle Gellar tweeted negatively in response to the photo.

Anna Wintour, the editor-in-cheif of American Vogue, was also highly questioned for making such a decision. She has also been sued by an ex boy band member for using a song he claims has his lyrics in a video Vogue posted on Kim and Kanyes photo shoot.

The truth is that Fashion is taking a different turn in the way it advertises it's new products. Models no longer dominate the magazine covers or catwalks, celebrities are the new muses for designers and celebrities are monopolizing the fashion industry.

Designers are turning to them for inspiration and celebrities are turning into fashion designers.

The fact is that celebrities can not be famous with out the fans and for that reason the April 2014 Vogue magazine went on to becoming the best selling issue to date! Whether you hate them or love them Kimye is here to stay!
